ARTICLE I--NAME
 

Section 1      The name of this organization shall be KENNESAW STATE UNIVERSITY PRE-                     VETERINARY MEDICAL ASSOCIATION hereinafter referred to as the Association.

 

 

ARTICLE II--OBJJECTIVES

 

Section 1      The objectives of the association shall be:

                     a.          To stimulate interest in the veterinary medical field at Kennesaw State                                         University.

                     b.          To familiarize students with the veterinary school application process                                   and requirements.

                     c.          To provide members with leadership and public service opportunities.

                     d.          To provide members with information about the variety of opportunities                                   available in the veterinary medical field.

                     e.          To provide the opportunity for students with similar interests to gather and                                   interact both socially and academically.

 

 

ARTICLE III--MEMBERSHIP

 

Section 1      Membership is offered to all registered students, faculty, staff, and alumnae of                       Kennesaw State University.

 

Section 2      The Association does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, age, religion,                      creed, color, handicap, disability, veteran status, national origin, sexual orientation,                      or ancestry.

 

Section 3      Any member of the Association is entitled to discontinue membership at any time                      without reason or cause.

 

Section 4      The Association does not practice or promote any physically or psychologically                      abusive hazing behaviors from any of its Members--either intentionally or                      unintentionally. Such behavior will be grounds for immediate discontinuation of                      membership without refund of dues.

 

Section 5      To be considered a voting member in good standing, he/she must attend at least                      half of the regularly scheduled meetings and be actively involved in 2 Association                      projects per year.

 

 

ARTICLE IV--ADMINISTRATION

 

Section 1      The Association shall be administered by an executive board, hereinafter referred to                      as the Board. The Board will consist of 4 Officers and 2 Chairmen.

 

Section 2      The Officers of the Association shall be President, Vice President, Secretary, and                      Treasurer. The Chairmen of the Association shall be Social Committee Chairman,                      and Fundraising Committee Chairman.

 

Section 3      The term of each Officer and Chairman shall be one academic year. Officers and                      Chairmen may only server one term.

 

Section 4      Any Officer or Chairman who misses more than 3 consecutive meetings without                      valid reasons as determined by the Board shall be dismissed.

 

 

ARTICLE V--OFFICERS AND CHAIRMEN

 

Section 1      The President shall be the chief executive officer and chairperson on the board and                      shall preside at all meetings and shall perform all duties consistent with the office.                      The President shall be a member ex-officio of all committees and shall appoint                      such committees as shall be necessary.

 

Section 2      In absence of the President, the Vice-President shall perform the duties of that                      office. The Vice-President shall perform all other duties consistent with the office                      as outlined in Roberts Rules of Order, Newly Revised.

 

Section 3      The Secretary shall be the recording and corresponding officer. The Secretary shall                      keep records of all meetings and minutes and distribute them to membership via                      email. The Secretary shall keep a roll of members voting and non-voting, record roll                      at each meeting, notify members of meetings, and keep all official records of the                      Association.

 

Section 4      The Treasurer shall collect, maintain and expend all monies of the Association with                      the approval of the Board. The Treasurer shall keep an account of all receipts and                      expenditures and must submit at each regular meeting a detailed financial report.                      The Treasurer shall prepare special financial reports at the Board's request.

 

Section 5      The Social Committee Chairman shall be in charge of and directly responsible for                      all social activities. Shall have knowledge of plices and procedures set forth by                      Kennesaw State University for such events, and will be responsible for organizing,                      running and registering all social events with Kennesaw State University. All events                      must have the approval of the Board and Kennesaw State University.

 

Section 6      The Fundraising Committee Chairman shall be in charge of and directly responsible                      for all fundraising events and programs. Shall have knowledge of polices and                      procedures set forth by Kennesaw State University and Georgia State law. Shall be                      responsible for organizing, running, and registering all such events. 

 

 

ARTICLE VI--MEETINGS

 

Section 1      The regular meetings of the Association shall be held each month during                      Kennesaw State University academic calendar year.

 

Section 2      Any special meetings shall be called by the President or the Board and shall be                      called upon the written request of 15% of the members. The purpose of the                      meeting shall be stated in the call. Except in the case of an emergency, at least 5                      days' notice shall be given.

 

Section 3      Six voting members including a minimum of two Officers shall constitute a quorum                      for the transactions of business at a regular or special meeting. Three Officers and                      one director shall constitute a quorum at a Board meeting.

 

 

ARTICLE VII--ELECTIONS

 

Section 1      Officers and Chairmen shall be elected from Members in good standing.

 

Section 2      All nominations must be presented at the regularly scheduled meeting one month                      prior to election day.

 

Section 3      Elections will take place midway through spring semester. Officer-elects and                      Chairmen-elects will begin their term the following semester.

 

Section 4      In order to protect the voting rights of all members, the following methods of voting                      shall be adopted.

                     a.          A "Show of hands" at a meeting, as defined by Robert's Rules of Order,                                  Newly Revised.

                     b.          A Secret Ballot at a meeting.

                                        1.   Members voting by secret ballot at a meeting shall mark their                                               ballots and fold them for placing in the container provided. The                                               President shall appoint two regular members to then count the                                               votes. Vote shall be determined by majority.

 

Section 5      A vacancy that occurs in any office or of a chairman shall be filled by a special                      election to be called by the Board.

 

 

ARTICLE VIII--COMMITTEES

 

Section 1      Standing Committees and special committees shall be appointed by the President                      with approval by the Board as deemed necessary to carry on the work of the                      Association.

 

 

ARTICLE IX--FINANCES

 

Section 1      The Dues of this club shall be established by the Board based on the needs of the                      Association.

 

Section 2      Dues shall be paid no later than the last week of October for fall semester, and no                      later than the last week of February for spring semester. 

 

Section 3      Upon failure to pay dues within sixty (60) days after the due date, the delinquent                      Member shall be automatically dropped from Membership. Notice shall be sent to                      the delinquent Member by the Secretary at least two (2) weeks before the grace                      period expires. After the grace period has expired and the delinquent Member                      wishes to remain a member of the Association, a reinstatement fee of $5.00 will be                      assessed in addition to the yearly dues.

 

 

ARTICLE X--ADVISOR

 

Section 1      The Association shall have an advisor selected from the faculty and staff of                      Kennesaw State University.

 

Section 2      The advisor shall be a non-noting member.

 

 

ARTICLE XI--PARLIAMENTARY AUTHORITY

 

Section 1      The rules contained in the current edition of Robert's Rules of Order, Newly Revised                      shall govern the Association in all cases to which they are applicable and in which                      they are not inconsistent with these bylaws and any special rules of order the                      Association may adopt.   

 

 

ARTICLE XII--AMENDMENT OF BYLAWS

 

Section 1      These bylaws may be amended at any regular meeting of the Association by two-                     thirds vote, provided that the amendment has been submitted in writing at the                      previous regular meeting.

 

 

ARTICLE XIII--SABAC ENABLING CLAUSE

 

Section 1      The Kennesaw State University Pre-Veterinary Medical Association agrees to                      abide by the policies of Kennesaw State University as well as all federal, state and                      local laws. This bylaws and any revisions or amendments must be approved by the                      Student Activities and Budget Advisory Committee prior to implementation.
